Hepatitis B (Jaundice)

Hepatitis B is a liver inflammation caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is prevalent worldwide and can spread through blood, exposure to bodily fluids, and sexual contact.

Hepatitis B can be asymptomatic for an extended period, progressing gradually. From being a dormant carrier, hepatitis B can advance to a severe state leading to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

The most common symptoms of hepatitis B:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Pain in the abdomen or joints
  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Yellowing of the eyes and skin

Testing for hepatitis B involves taking blood samples to test for HBV antigens and antibodies. The results obtained can determine whether the patient is currently suffering from acute or chronic infection, has previously been infected, acts as a carrier of the disease, or is contagious.

The most effective way to prevent hepatitis B is through vaccination, which offers reliable protection and is safe.
