Infertility and Sperm Testing

In most instances, male reproductive issues are demonstrated through sperm analysis anomalies, and it is infrequent to observe cases of male infertility with a normal sperm analysis.

Sperm analysis is crucial in assessing male infertility. This laboratory test should be conducted after 3-6 days of sexual abstinence to yield accurate results.

Sperm Analyses

Sperm analysis is the primary and crucial laboratory examination for evaluating male fertility.

This test analyzes the liquid part of the sample and the sperm, which are motile cells that can be seen under a microscope.

In general, a semen sample is collected by masturbating into a wide-mouthed sterile container. The sample is analyzed for characteristics such as quantity, pH, and color, presence of leukocytes, liquefaction time, and morphological structure. The sperm count, sperm motility, and sperm structure are then meticulously evaluated.

Medications, stress, environmental factors, smoking, and alcohol consumption can influence sperm count and motility, hence affecting the test outcome. Sperm production occurs in cycles every 2-3 months. To ensure accurate results, 2 sperm test examinations should be conducted at 3-4 week intervals.
