Neonatal Period

During the neonatal period, prevalent issues comprise respiratory failure caused by RDS (respiratory distress syndrome), congenital heart ailments, intestinal diseases entailing surgical intervention, microbial ailments such as meningitis and sepsis, premature birth, low or high birth weight, genetic diseases, brain damage resulting from oxygen deprivation during difficult deliveries, neonatal jaundice, and exchange transfusion.

As part of the Neonatal Screening Program, the objective is to detect uncommon conditions that can have a notable effect on a newborn's physical and mental growth and influence their standard of living. The examination entails collecting a few droplets of blood from the infant's heel within 48-72 hours of birth.

The goal of these tests for newborns is to diagnose diseases early. Neonatal screening tests are tailored to identify treatable diseases when detected early.
