Testosterone is a steroid hormone that facilitates the development of male physical and sexual characteristics.

Testosterone secretion initiates during puberty, which leads to a thickened voice, development of muscles and genitals, increased sperm production, and body hair growth in boys.

Men usually have the highest levels of testosterone around the age of 40, but as they age, the levels decrease.  A blood sample taken from a vein in the arm is commonly used to check the testosterone levels.
