Insulin Resistance

Insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas, plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of the metabolism. It facilitates the transfer of glucose from the blood to the cells, thereby decreasing the glucose level in the blood.

What is insulin resistance?

Insulin resistance is when insulin is unable to have its biological effects on glucose, fat, and protein metabolism despite circulating. As insulin resistance develops, blood glucose levels increase, leading to higher levels of insulin synthesis in the pancreas.

Insulin is required to convert the glucose consumed during the day into energy. Insulin resistance occurs due to insensitivity to insulin in the liver, fat, and muscle tissues. As a result, blood sugar cannot be converted into energy, leading to increased blood sugar levels. High glucose levels can result in metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes in the future.
