HIV - AIDS

HIV is a virus that is transmitted through blood and unprotected sexual intercourse and can settle in various tissues of the body, showing its effects on the immune system.

Although the most common route of transmission is sexual contact, it can also be transmitted from an infected mother to her baby before, during, or after birth. The virus can also be transmitted through breastfeeding. It is important for anyone who has engaged in high-risk activities to be tested for HIV.

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), caused by HIV, is a life-threatening condition in which the immune system is vulnerable to infections and cancers. Contrary to popular belief, not all HIV-positive people develop AIDS. AIDS may develop if HIV infection is not diagnosed and treated properly.
